Divorce and Family Law Overview
For over 30 years, I have devoted the bulk of my practice to divorce and family law, including service in the judiciary. I have had the privilege of helping people navigate emotional, practical, and legal issues in what is often a highly emotionally charged atmosphere. There are no “cookie cutter” approaches, but there are definitely ways to make what is oftentimes a difficult path easier.
I often tell people that I am an expert on the law, they are not, but they are an expert on the facts, and I am not. From our initial meeting, I offer practical information and tools so that we can mutually educate each other in order to present the best possible case, if need he, and the best possible solution for each issue that can be agreed upon. The good news is that nearly all cases settle, even though they are oftentimes awful In the beginning.
Mediation and judicial settlement conferences before retired judges have been very successful. A mediator has no power to make rulings about your case, but a mediator ‘s role is to solely try to help the parties reach a compromise. Sometimes a compromise cannot be made an certain issues and with those issues preparation and experience are the keys to success.
